Sustainable commercial construction is on the fast-track, worldwide. As more and more international companies adopt Corporate Sustainability Programs, there are more and more projects that call for the adoption of “green” means and methods in the renovation, retrofit and/or maintenance and management of existing facilities. Yet there is still a significant disconnect between a client’s commitment to corporate sustainability and the client having a clear vision of what that commitment actually entails.
As every PMP knows, the greatest contribution to project success is defining, at the outset, the project metrics and how success will be measured when the project is complete. All too frequently, corporate Sustainability Policies state that the company’s goal is to “go green,” without providing much in the way of deliverables. When pressed on how they will measure project success, the client’s responses are typically vague comments on reducing O&M costs while achieving a reasonable ROI. Very often, it is up to the PM to educate the client about real-world sustainability for them to accurately quantify objective, reasonable and achievable goals.
Sustainable Project Management: Educating the Stakeholders is a 30-minute study of how to educate clients that want to “go green” but who are having trouble determining quantifiable deliverables. A second 30-minute period will incorporate a role playing session where the class will explore questions that must be asked if we are to help the client quantify his targeted goals. Additionally, we will discuss the proper answers to a client’s most frequently asked questions.
